Department of Physics, BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus has recently organised a national level event on Pulsar Astrophysics in association with Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. A four-day uGMRT boot camp was held from 3rd to 6th of January, 2018. The boot camp was followed by a Workshop on 7th and 8th January on "Multi-wavelength Neutron Star Astronomy".

uGMRT Boot-Camp :


The upgraded Giant Meter Radio Telescope (uGMRT) offers unique opportunities in Pulsar Astronomy. Pilot observations are on-going to search for new pulsars and the on-going pulsar timing program aims to contribute to the direct detection of nano-Hz gravitational waves. The 4-day boot camp held during (3-6th January, 2018) involved introductory lectures on various aspects of Pulsar Astronomy and hands-on training for analysing uGMRT pulsar data by experts from renowned research institutes of India. The boot-camp was aimed towards Ph.D students, Post-Doctoral Fellows and a few exceptionally motivated MSc students from various parts of the country.

Neutron Star Workshop :


The fourth edition of Neutron Star workshop, was held during 7-8th January, 2018, brought together the leading scientists, both observers and theoreticians, working on neutron star, pulsars and gravitational waves. The workshop focused on Multi-Wavelength Neutron Star Astronomy, achievable with Indian facilities such as ASTROSAT, uGMRT, Ooty Radio Telescope, Devesthal Optical Telescope and LIGO-India. The workshop had slots for technical presentations and discussions to advance our on-going collaborative activities.
